Making Experience Matter: Why We Started Career Circle in Luxembourg

Every venture starts with a realization. Ours began with two separate paths that arrived at the exact same conclusion: Luxembourg’s talent market has a blind spot, and it is costing both individuals and organizations dearly.

When experienced professionals over 40 face sudden career transitions, the silence from the market can be deafening. Despite decades of accumulated wisdom, proven resilience, and specialized knowledge, thousands of seasoned candidates find themselves asking a question that should never have to be asked in a modern economy: Does my experience still matter?

At Career Circle, our answer is an unequivocal yes. But rather than simply lamenting the status quo, we decided to build the solution.

Two Paths, One Mission

Career Circle was born out of real conversations, shared observations, and a mutual passion for human potential.

Andres Moll brings over 25 years of human resources leadership to the table. Having served as an HR Director across multiple European jurisdictions and operating as a fractional HR Director for growing companies, Andres saw firsthand how organizations struggle with talent retention and skill gaps. Yet, returning to his roots in executive coaching and training, he was continually moved by the untapped talent sitting right on the sidelines: experienced professionals who simply needed a specialized approach to translate their decades of value into today’s market.

Steve Muscat Azzopardi experienced the market friction personally. With over 20 years in international management and executive leadership, Steve returned to Luxembourg in 2024. After navigating the job application process himself and pivoting into executive mentoring, his very first mentees were experienced professionals struggling to land their next role after being let go. By helping them reframe their stories, optimize their approach, and rebuild their confidence, multiple interview opportunities materialized within weeks, including four interviews in a single month for one mentee alone..

When we joined forces, our very first step wasn't launching a corporate service, it was creating a LinkedIn peer support group. We wanted to build a safe, honest space for experienced professionals facing transition to connect, share their realities, and support one another.

That peer support remains central to who we are today. By listening to our community, we get to know our members far beyond the bullet points on a CV. Within a week, over 100 professionals joined the movement, engaging in active sessions on CV re-engineering, personal branding, and career resilience.

It confirmed what we already suspected: a dedicated, specialized platform for experienced talent in Luxembourg was urgently needed.

The Economic Reality: Luxembourg Cannot Afford to Waste Experience

While supporting candidates through the emotional and practical toll of career transition is central to what we do, Career Circle is far more than a support network. It is an economic imperative.

Luxembourg faces persistent skills shortages. Yet, experienced professionals over 40 face disproportionately high rates of long-term unemployment. The traditional perceptions around mature candidates, that they are inflexible, expensive, or resistant to technology, are simply not supported by data:

  • Retention & Stability: International research from the OECD shows that professionals aged 50+ demonstrate significantly higher job stability and lower voluntary turnover, protecting organizations from costly replacement cycles.

  • Productivity & Innovation: Age-diverse teams consistently outperform homogeneous teams. Combining fresh, emerging skills with mature judgment, business context, and deep networks creates the ultimate formula for operational resilience.

  • Economic Growth: Studies by the World Economic Forum and AARP indicate that age-inclusive hiring practices can boost long-term GDP per capita by up to 19%.

The issue isn't a lack of capability, it's a breakdown in connection and perspective. We don't need to choose between young talent and experienced talent; the value lies in putting the two together.

"Luxembourg cannot afford to leave decades of skills, networks, and accumulated wisdom on the sidelines during a skills shortage."
